Recovering from a stroke or brain injury can be complex and deeply personal. At Coffs Neuro Physio, we believe that recovery is strongest when we treat the whole person—body and mind. That’s why our offering of both physiotherapy and speech pathology is delivering real results for people rebuilding their lives after neurological injury.
Brain injuries often affect more than just movement. Many people also experience communication difficulties such as expressive or receptive dysphasia, cognitive-communication challenges, and problems with swallowing and mealtimes. Addressing these issues alongside mobility can create a more complete, effective, and empowering recovery journey.

“Communication is at the heart of how we connect with the world,” says Heather, our in-house Speech Pathologist. “Whether someone is struggling to find the right words, understand others, or swallow safely, we provide tailored therapy to meet their unique needs.
Working closely together, our team of neuro physios and speech pathologists create integrated care plans designed to support all aspects of recovery. From improving gait and strength to managing word-finding difficulties or learning safe swallowing techniques, every session and therapy plan is shaped around the individual.

“The brain has an amazing capacity to adapt,” says Amanda, Senior Neurological Physiotherapist. “For some, combining physio and speech pathology can stimulate multiple areas of the brain, accelerate neuroplasticity and lead to better overall outcomes. Others may require coordinated blocks of one modality at a time to allow for maximum focus and enhanced outcomes.”
Both collaborative approaches can be helpful for clients experiencing:
- Aphasia (difficulty speaking, understanding, reading and writing)
- Dysarthria (unclear speech due to weak muscles)
- Apraxia of speech (difficulty saying what one wants to say)
- Dysphagia (difficulty swallowing)
- Cognitive-communication changes like memory or attention difficulties
- Coexisting movement and balance impairments
Each client begins with comprehensive assessments to determine where support is needed, and how best to deliver it. Sessions are then customised to target communication, swallowing, and movement goals in ways that are meaningful, achievable, and grounded in everyday life.
If you or someone you love is recovering from stroke or brain injury and facing challenges with communication or physical function, we’re here to help.
