Multiple Sclerosis

Understanding the condition. Supporting your journey.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neurological disorder in which the immune system targets the protective covering of nerve fibres in the brain and spinal cord. Because it can affect anywhere in the central nervous system, MS can present in many ways and change over time. Common symptoms include fatigue, muscle weakness, sensory changes, pain, spasticity, poor balance, reduced mobility, heat sensitivity, visual disturbances, bladder or bowel changes and cognitive fatigue. No two people experience MS the same way, so a flexible, individual approach to care is essential.

At Coffs Neuro Physio we focus on maximising independence, reducing secondary complications and helping clients maintain an active lifestyle. Our team of experienced neuro physiotherapists and a speech pathologist combine evidence-informed assessment with practical strategies tailored to each stage of the condition. Therapy may address strength and endurance, balance and gait, posture, energy conservation, mobility aids, and safe exercise planning. Education for families and carers, equipment prescription and liaison with neurologists or other health professionals form part of our holistic model of care.

Early engagement with physiotherapy can delay physical decline, while ongoing review allows programmes to evolve as symptoms change. Whether you are newly diagnosed or managing later-stage concerns, we will work with you to set meaningful goals and support you in achieving them.
